The Smokestack
OH! I just realized, I forgot to tell you about The Smokestack! I was thinking of recording a little blurb for the audio feed too.
Bill man from The Smokestack got in touch a couple of months ago and asked me if a “this month in history” column would be do-able. I’ve written three such articles for the paper since then. In February I talked about Dry dock Fish Frenzies, in March I talked about the Erland’s point massacre and in April, I talked about Crane 28.
So, if you’re looking for a hit of local history while Bremelore is out of season, pick up a copy of the Smokestack! It’s free and they distribute print copies all over the peninsula. Check out the list of locations here. The earlier issues are all also available on their blog.
You know, when I was a kid I thought I would grow up to be a writer. I certainly thought I was a journalist, spying out of my bedroom window and scribbling little notes in my diary about what the neighbors were up to. I published little bits of poetry here and there as an angsty teenager but That’s not the direction that life ended up taking me.
And yet, here we are. My writing has somehow made it’s way full circle into a print newspaper, in the year… 2024?! Who would’ve thought?
Anyway, I don’t want to babble too much. I’ve got some writing to do. Make sure you check out the Smokestack for local happening and my little hit of local history.
